The Veil

The Veil

New York, New York

Natural phenomena is represented through architecture: the design of hanging veils creates an atmospheric effect, like floating clouds. They fill the 15-story open space, while still allowing the experience of monumentality.

The veils are formed by digitally fabricated steel rings at the top and translucent filament making its way down 15 stories to another set of sculpted rings, producing light. They mediate the massive Sol Lewitt drawing, while enhancing the experience of it.

The lower rings of the veils create a virtual surface, so one does not get lost in the vertiginous quality of the atrium. They are extruded and shaped to give way, filter, block, and frame different points of view.
